Add a Tropical Burst of Relaxation and Fun to Your Bedroom With Hawaiian Decor

Looking for an interesting theme for your bedroom? Why not delve into the exotic world of tropical themes, and use Hawaiian décor to create your own personal paradise. If you are a more conservative decorator, or have never decorated in a theme before, a Hawaiian or island theme may seem a little excessive for your bedroom. However, in actuality, because there are so many elements to Hawaiian décor, you can make your bedroom as extravagant or basic as you want.

Light Oak Beds

The following are some ideas for you to think about when putting together such a theme for your bedroom:

Light Oak Beds

Walls - There are many ways you can color your walls. If you would like to keep it simple, a clean neutral shade of brown such as sand or a light taupe, or a warm white are excellent paint choices. For those who would prefer a more dynamic wall, consider painting the wall a bright but soft yellow, blue or green.

On the other hand, if you are feeling creative, you could paint a beach wall mural, or purchase a ready made mural, such as a Hawaiian sunset, and paste it on the wall. In addition, don't forget, there are always palm tree, palm leaf, and floral wallpaper if you like prints.

Floors - Deep red-brown, chestnut, or sand colored wood floors are the perfect compliment for any Hawaiian décor. If hard wood floors are out of your budget, consider laminate. Conversely, if carpet is preferred, a nice light or dark shade of brown, ocean blue, sea green or light green are all ideal choices.

Doors and Moldings - These elements of the room should be colored in a dark and rich brown such as oak or cherry to blend nicely with the rest of the room.

Window treatments - The best window treatments for Hawaiian décor are wooden shutters, or bamboo blinds. You can leave these window treatments as is, or you can provide them with a little more oomph by adding a delicate white sheer curtain.

Lighting - A wood ceiling fan, especially one with blades in the shape of palm leaves, is ideal for the Hawaiian theme. If a ceiling fan is out of the question, opt for any other basic ceiling light, as your goal is to not make the ceiling light a focal point of the room. Hula dancer lamps, palm tree lamps, or pineapple lamps are also fun décor pieces for bedside tables or end tables.

Bedding - In regards to bedding, you essentially have two options. Either choose a solid color for your quilt or comforter, or choose a print. If you choose a solid color, you can add printed throw pillows to dress up your bed. However, if you choose a print, such as orchids or palm leaves, make sure you accent throw pillows and walls with solid colors. It is imperative that the room doesn't carry too many prints or it will look to busy and intimidating.

Furniture - Wood furniture is definitely the way to go. If you cannot obtain solid wood furniture, opt for bamboo, or dark faux wood furniture. That being said, don't overload your space with furniture, as your goal is to create an open space. Therefore, make sure you include all essential furniture pieces first (I.E. bed, dresser, chest of drawers and bedside table). If you still have room than you can add any other furniture such as end tables, sitting chair, shelves, armoire, etc.

Accessories - Other Hawaiian décor you may wish to add to the room include:

o Palm plant (real or artificial)

o Vase of artificial orchids

o Wall tapestries of palm trees, orchids or palm leaves

o Authentic Hawaiian art

o Pictures of palm trees, orchids, a beach, Hawaiian architecture, hula girl, or actual framed photographs taken in Hawaii, etc.

Note: wooden frames are best for pictures or wall art.

o Area rug with flower or palm leaf

o Plain or decorative bamboo or wooden screen

o Throw pillows with floral or palm leaf pattern.

o Bamboo chair

When it comes to using Hawaiian décor for your bedroom, there are plenty of options to choose from. Your decisions will be based on your budget and your own personal taste. Therefore, make sure you shop around and look for different items before making any final decisions. Finally, trust your own judgment and don't be afraid to be creative when putting together your bedroom. Take your time, and have fun!

Different Types of Metal Furniture

Having metal furniture, instead of other materials such as wood and plastic, offers a lot of great benefits that are unique to metal material. Its use has become known and preferred by most people, as it is made to be durable so that it can last for longer years as compared to the other materials. Other than its durability, it suits nearly every environment where it is placed. It makes it look elegant and attractive and it can make a good impression on the people around, especially when placed outside. It serves as a great attraction because, aside from durability, it comes with various styles that are unique.

Light Oak Beds

When it comes to metal furniture, there are many types available that people can choose from depending on their purpose and their budget. If they want something that is for outdoor use, then they can choose aluminum. It is lightweight so that people can bring it easily from place to place. There is less hassle such that it can be brought out even without the help of other people. Kids can even carry it on their own as it s very light in weight. It is perfect for camping and picnics or other outside activities. People will be able to have a place where they can spend their time, while watching the beautiful scenery outside. Also, it is easy to bring it in the car as there are styles which are designed to fold up; it is space saving and it does not take much effort to bring.

Light Oak Beds

There is only one problem when it comes to aluminum. Due to its light weight, it should not be left outside, especially during windy days. It may be blown away and may possibly harm to other objects or even people nearby. Wrought iron is another type of metal that is great for furniture use. It is little expensive as compared to the aluminum as some of it is specially treated to be free from rust. Also, people can place some of their personal touch on the furniture, as it can be painted with the color they want. Like the aluminum it has some disadvantages as well. Wrought iron is sensitive to weather changes. When the weather is cold, it becomes cold as well, and vice versa. It makes it an uncomfortable place to sit during hot or cold seasons.

Along with durability, metal furniture is also known to provide elegance in the whole area, as it comes in different styles and designs that are unique. It can be a great attraction that everybody will love. Not only that, it is strong and it can last for longer years. Though, proper care is still needed as it can be rusted, depending on the type of material used. If it is taken great care of, it will be sure to last and bring enjoyment for many long years.

Sealy Queen Mattress Wood Counter Height Stools

House Interior Design Styles of the Tudor and Jacobean Periods

Whitewashed plaster between wooden structural beams was the most common wall finish of Tudor living room designs - or any room for that matter. Timber paneling of oak was also a strongly featured interior design style in the houses of wealthier people. This would have been in a lighter tone of wood than we might expect, the darkening with which we are familiar having occurred through age or staining. Other cheaper woods were also used and these were often painted in colors or finished to imitate finer woods or other rich materials.

Light Oak Beds

The most commonly seen division of panels was in squares or rectangles. Additional decoration might also be applied in the form of painting or carving (especially in the popular linen fold design). Later in the period the joins of panel sections were often concealed behind carved pilasters. Wall-papers, made in panels for adhering to fabric before being attached to walls, were produced during the sixteenth century, but these were only to be seen in a minority of houses.

Light Oak Beds

Ceilings in the larger houses, later on, tended to be highly decorated with plaster-work, the designs for which were often geometric in nature. Heraldic and floral motifs featured and strap-work was often to be seen.

Flooring

Compacted earth strewn with loose rushes gradually lost out in favor of rush matting. Wooden floor-boards in oak, elm or imported fir and of varying widths - generally of more generous proportions than their present-day equivalents - began to be seen in wealthier households. In the latter part of the period these might be covered with carpets from the Orient, Turkey or continental Europe, or perhaps even home-produced examples. Flagstones were also a widely used floor surface.

Furnishings

The most notable feature of furniture during this period was the number of new items coming into use. The canopied four-poster bed was still the most important piece (mattresses were now filled with feathers instead of straw), but newly introduced were such pieces as chests on stands, presses (tall cupboards for clothing or foodstuffs) and bookcases.

Oak was still the popular choice of wood for those who could afford it. For others, cheaper softwoods might be used and these were usually painted to disguise their humble origins. Furniture was often turned and quite bulbous in nature with a highly carved surface.

Upholstery started to appear and house interiors became altogether more comfortable thanks to the use of cloths such as brocade, silk damask, woolen cloth and velvet. Textile window treatments were rarely seen (where they existed, they would consist of just one curtain, on a pole and swagged to one side), wooden shutters being more usual.

Lighting And Accessories

Interiors were lit by either rush lights or tallow candles plus, of course, the light emanating from an open fire. Unlike our modern, odorless, smooth-burning candles, the tallow variety, being manufactured from animal fats, would have performed erratically and given off smells and smoke. Accessorizing as we know it - employing items purely for their decorative value - was less prevalent. However, pewter serving ware and bold candlesticks, functional as well as attractive, would often be on display.

Four Advantages to Installing Skylights in Your Home

Skylights are increasingly common in new homes today. Skylights are not only practical, they're beautiful too. Few things compare to natural sunlight streaming into your home. Natural sunlight helps to regulate the body's circadian rhythm, inducing better night time sleep and staving off the "blues" in the winter. These are just a few of the advantages to installing skylights in your home.

If you're building a new home or renovating an existing one, there are four other advantages to installing skylights, including:

1) Skylights maximize natural light in darker parts of your home. Rather than cutting down that hundred year-old oak tree that is casting shade over the front of your house, a skylight in your entryway might let you keep the tree and still enjoy natural sunlight. They will brighten up just about any dark area in your home. They add a sense of spaciousness. This can be especially advantageous in a smaller home, creating an illusion of space and depth.

2) They can help cut down on your electric bill. Strategically-placed skylights replace the need for electric lighting, at least during the daytime. They also add heat to your home, cutting down on the amount of electric or gas heat you'll need to generate. All of this can translate into big savings, even up to 20% per year.

3) Skylights are "green." Since you're saving electricity, you're helping to preserve the environment. In fact, one of the latest trends in home building is "green" homes, houses built with maximizing efficiency and preserving nature in mind. These green homes almost always include skylights in some manner. Even if you can't afford all of the latest innovations in green home technology, skylights are still relatively affordable, especially when you consider the energy cost savings they can produce. Plus, you can feel good about helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

4) They increase the overall value of your home. You can usually count on getting back any money you invest in installing skylights in the way of increased home value. Skylights have modern appeal, both for their energy-efficiency and for the beauty that they add to a home.

Light Oak Beds

Installing skylights in your home is a relatively easy way to add warmth and value to a home. If you're building a brand new home, it's easy to include them in your initial plans. If you plan to add them to an existing home it will be well worth the effort and the investment. One of the biggest advantages to installing skylights in your home: they can transform an average, ordinary home into an extraordinarily-livable space.
